The area around the villa

Villa Elli is situated outside the historic town of Rethymno, in the traditional village of Prines.

The village itself is beautiful, flourishing with flora and olive groves. A perfect option for those who appreciate nature and are looking for peace. Being a small countryside village, Prines has only a few small shops however, your basic requirements will be met by the local mini-market, the traditional cafes and the excellent tavern almost 800 m away from our villa.

Staying in Prines village will give you the advantage of both countryside life and being less than 10 min away from Rethymno town by car.  Prines is a traditional village with many permanent residents living throughout the year. It is 7 kilometres from the city of Rethymno and only 2 kilometres from the village of Atsipopoulou which has tavernas, supermarkets, bakeries and all necessary amenities.The majority of the local products are related to agriculture (mainly olives and olive-oil) and stock-breeding but there are also some small factories which employ a number of the inhabitants.

Specifically in Rethymno centre there is a large variety of shops (supermarkets, fishmongers, butcher shops, bakeries,) as well as highly acclaimed restaurants, numerous cafes, pastry shops, ice cream shops and more. In Rethymno you may also visit the magnificent old town, the Venetian harbour,  the museum and the venetian castle “Fortezza” which is the trademark of the city.
